Overview

Greenhouse is a medical cannabis dispensary in the State of Illinois with four different locations in Deerfield, Mokena, Morris, and Litchfield.

They opened their doors with Deerfield first in January of 2016, followed by Mokena, then Morris, then Litchfield. Litchfield was the last to open in May of 2017.

Beginning their program

When we began their SEO program, Greenhouse was a brand new company, and medical cannabis was a relatively new product in the State of Illinois. Part of the uphill battle was the law and ensuring that patients were able to have access to registry cards, which was out of our hands. Fortunately, the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program has been a success, though Illinois does have on of the most restrictive medical cannabis programs in the country; if this was not the case, we would see even more success.

Opportunity

Dispensaries in the State of Illinois did not open until November of 2015, and Greenhouse soon followed in January of 2016. However, we began our digital marketing program prior to opening, meaning that we were able to optimize the website, begin social media marketing, begin off-page work, and more, to give Greenhouse a head start. Medical cannabis is a huge industry, and will only become larger, so early adoption of a strong digital marketing strategy is of utmost importance.

Strategy Overview

Due to the nature of medical cannabis, we knew that paid promotion would be impossible. We also knew that they were starting from the beginning, so we needed to take care of directory listings, basic on page optimizations, social media branding and awareness, and general content additions before we could see results. After we were able to implement the basics, we were able to focus on additional off-page work, link building, in-depth content creation, advanced on-page optimizations, review generation, and more.

We knew that they were going to have multiple locations prior to creating their website and beginning their program. However, we did not want to optimize for locations that would not be opening for a while. We began with Deerfield keywords and the surrounding areas, then added Mokena in, then Morris, and lastly, Litchfield. As we added keywords, their on and off page work reflected these changes. Adding content pages, particularly geography-targeted pages and medical condition pages, was also instrumental in keyword improvement.

Results

Below are additional statistics to show the progress that our continuing digital strategy has been able to produce. Early implementation of digital marketing, smart SEO strategy from 2015 to now, and a strong social presence, as well as a close working relationship with the client, has helped boost their already booming account.
