5 Digital Marketing Trends for 2020

Now that we’ve officially started a new decade, it’s time to turn our attention to the emerging marketing trends.

Voice Search

Over 25 percent of adults in the U.S. own a smart speaker like an Amazon Echo or a Google Home that allows you to search for something by simply asking a question out loud. In addition to the 25 percent of adults that use a smart speaker, over 31 percent of smartphone users use voice search, such as Siri or Alexa, at least once a week. In 2020, you can no longer avoid voice search.

The most important factor for digital marketers to remember is to use long-tail keywords that align with not only how people type but how people speak.

Interactive Content & Direct Messaging 

Many consumers are looking for more interactive content in 2020, such as quizzes, videos, and polls. This type of content is new and original, gives visitors a reason to stay on your page and is extremely shareable on social channels. In addition to interactive content, the ability for consumers to chat directly with a representative forges a relationship between the business and customer. In this day and age, most consumers don’t want to have to call to speak with someone, they want an easy way to message online.

Personalization

Consumers are tired of seeing generic ads and emails that have little to do with them or their online habits. With the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI), personalization is even easier. By collecting data from your online behavior, AI is able to design emails and ads specifically for you. Emails that look and function like websites (with buttons and images) are likely to improve conversions.

Video

While video marketing gained traction in 2019, it’s now a must in 2020. Seventy-eight percent of viewers will watch advertising in exchange for free games, YouTube videos, for a discount and more.  Videos on your site and social pages keep consumers on your page longer than any other content. Additionally, Facebook and Instagram Live videos get watched 3x longer than videos that aren’t live.

Programmatic Advertising

Programmatic advertising uses AI to automate ad buying to target more specific audiences. By automating your ad buying, you will receive higher conversion and lower acquisition costs.
