How To Optimize Your Social Media Profiles for SEO

While you might already know that holding a variety of social media profiles is great for getting your business name out there, you may not be an expert on how to optimize your profile for search engines and user experience. Use these steps when setting up your social platforms to provide more value to your business and your customers.

Fill Out Your Profile

The most important piece of optimizing your social handles for SEO is filling out the profiles completely and accurately. The more complete your profile, the more it’ll stand out against your competitors and the higher it will rank on search engines. Ensure your company info such as business name, address, hours, and phone numbers are exactly the same across each platform.

Bio

Although you’re working with a limited character count, your bio should communicate what you’re all about. Your business type should determine what’s most important to your customers, but you can use your bio to explain your niche products or services, state your qualifications and experience, or share your values and beliefs. Your bio should also include a link back to your website and relevant keywords to drive more traffic.

Profile Photo

If your company is a team of people, your profile photo should always be your company’s logo. You can use a headshot if you’re a freelancer, consultant or any other one-man team, but your image should also be high-quality and cropped accordingly. Here are the profile photo dimensions across different social media platforms:

  • LinkedIn: 400 x 400
  • Facebook: 170 x170
  • Twitter: 400 x 400
  • Instagram: 120 x 120

Original vs Curated Content

Your social media content calendar should consist of original and curated content. Original content is created just for social media and could include posts highlighting your services, short videos, or engaging images. If you’re unable to take your own photos you can browse photo generation websites such as Unsplash, Pixebay, or Pexels. Curated content is content that’s shared from another source. You can share curated content from your own channels by posting previous blog posts or positive reviews about your company, or you can share helpful articles from other industry experts.
